Hola Familia,
Sorry about last week everyone! I spent most of my day last Monday
being sick...but thank you so much for your prayers, they made the
world of a difference. I am feeling ready and pumped once again, and
we had a fantastic week.
I never really know exactly where to being so I will start with our
investigator named Alfredo! This is a miracle investigator whom I know
is a result of the Lord's hand in the work and all of your faithful
prayers. I can't thank you enough!
Alfredo was a potential investigator whose information was somehow
neglected for more than a year!! Ridiculous right? So we went and
stopped by his door and he immediately let us in. He is so engaged in
learning more about the Book of Mormon and coming to church (he has
already attended twice). We sent him a text to read Mosiah 18 before
our next appointment this week and when we went over he had read it
and marked his scriptures! (In case you are wondering this never
happens) So needless to say the Lord has blessed us with an incredible
opportunity to help a man come closer to Christ. While reading through
Mosiah 18 during our lesson we talked about- BAPTISM. He especially
loved the verse where it talks about coming into the "Redil de Dios"
or "the Fold of God. He is so ready! The only thing is that he is
nervous about the process of baptism, like the getting into the font
part. (He is an older man). We are going to give him a tour of the
church ( and baptismal font (; (; ) this week so please keep praying
that he will feel comfortable and accept the decision to be baptized.
Right now he is praying about March 5th as his baptismal date!
Hmm...I am trying to think about what else has happened...
The area is really cool! I wish I could send more pictures, but we are
not allowed to take pictures during proseliting time so I can't take
too many pictures of the actually places where we walk and tract. This
area is pretty much tons of apartment complexes and trailers. It is
much more compact than my last area (closer to the city). The craziest
thing is that we have a dinner appointment every night with a member!
Which means me and Elder Hughes wake up early to get started in the
gym.
I should have taken a picture when we were eating with Obispo and his
wife. Obispo knows a few words in English that he says a lot one of
them is "Sweet" which he uses to descriptor anything that is really
spicy. So during dinner he was just eating Jalapeño peppers like
apples and he kept saying, "es sweet" over and over again. So I took a
huge bite of one. I actually like spicy things, but I was tearing up
to say the least.
The work is an overall privilege to be a part of. This is the most
enjoyable time of my entire life. I often have to wipe a smirk off of
my face due to the fact that I am laughing/smiling for the majority of
my day.
The scriptural example of Alma and his brethren proves itself over and
over again, Alma 31:38 "...and he also gave them strength, that they
should suffer no manner of afflictions, save it were swallowed up in
the joy of Christ."
I trust my Savior in every moment of my day. I know that with His help
all things are possible. Please always remember Him.
I love you all! Have a fantastic week
